National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, Agreement of Use for the Shared High-Performance Computer, ABCI

1. Revision and abolishment except for some parts of ABCI Agreement for Use

We hereby announce that effective March 31, 2024, we will revise the ABCI Agreement for Use, and abolish the current ABCI Agreement for Use with the exception of some articles.

  • Addition of Article 8-4 (Transitional Measures for Continued ABCI Use) to the ABCI Agreement of Use
  • Abolition of the ABCI Agreement of Use except for the above-mentioned additions

(Transitional Measures for Continued ABCI Use)

Article 8-4 If a User Corporation wishes to continue its use of the ABCI service for the fiscal year 2024, following the ABCI Agreement of Use concluded with the Institute that expires on March 30, 2024, the User Corporation shall submit an application for continuation of use of the ABCI service in accordance with the method specified by the Institute within 17:00 (Japan Standard Time) on March 30, 2024 from the date the application for continuation of use of the ABCI service for the fiscal year 2024 is received. After April 1, 2024, the application will be transferred to AIST Solutions Co. (hereinafter referred to as “AISol”). The term of validity of the ABCI Agreement with AISol shall be until 17:00 (Japan Standard Time) on March 30, 2025.

2 If the Subscriber wishes to continue using the ABCI after the ABCI Agreement with the Institute expires on March 30, 2024, and applies to AISol for continuation of use of the ABCI from April 1 to the end of September of the same year by the application method specified by AISol, AISol will approve such application and the Subscriber will receive the ABCI Points. A new ABCI Subscriber Agreement shall be deemed to have been concluded between the Subscriber Corporation and AISol from the time when AISol approves the application and grants ABCI Points to the Subscriber Corporation. In this case, the term of validity of the ABCI Usage Agreement shall be from the time the ABCI Points are granted to 17:00 (Japan Standard Time) on March 30, 2025, and the contents of the ABCI Terms of Use established by AISol as of April 1, 2024 shall be the contents of such agreement.

3 In the case of Clause 1 or Clause 2, if the Subscriber Corporation has not paid the ABCI Usage Agreement with the Institute to date, the Subscriber Corporation may not receive approval from AISol to continue use of the ABCI or be granted ABCI points until the outstanding amount has been paid.

4 In the case of Clause 1 or Clause 2, if a non-resident Subscriber is included in the Subscriber Group of the legal entity that wishes to use the ABCI Subscription Service, AISol will separately review the laws and regulations related to security export control for such non-resident Subscriber after approving the continuation of use as specified in Clause 1 or Clause 2. In the event that a non-resident user is included in the group, after approval for continued use as stipulated in Paragraph 1 or Paragraph 2, a separate screening will be conducted regarding the laws and regulations related to security export control for such non-resident user, and only after passing the screening will approval for use be granted to such non-resident user.

5 With respect to the data, etc. (including registration information of Users, etc. and file information and usage information of Users, etc.) of Users, etc. of the User Corporation that has concluded the ABCI Agreement with the Institute, which is valid until March 30, 2024, the AISol will not approve the use of such data, etc. by the Non-Resident Users unless the AISol has passed the examination and passed the examination. (including registration information of Users, etc., file information of Users, etc., and usage information) of the User Corporation that has concluded an ABCI Agreement with the Institute will be managed by AISol from April 1, 2024, regardless of whether or not a Usage Agreement has been concluded with AISol.

6 In the event that a User Corporation that has concluded an ABCI Usage Agreement with AISol by March 30, 2024, applies for the continuation of usage by the end of September 2024 and concludes an ABCI Usage Agreement with AISol, the User Corporation shall continue to manage the User Corporation’s data, etc. (including the User Corporation’s registration information and file information and usage information of the User Corporation). 7 AISol will delete the data, etc. (excluding the registration information of the Users, etc.) of the Users, etc. who do not apply for the continuation of use as specified in Paragraph 1 and who do not apply for the continuation of use as specified in Paragraph 2 by the end of September 2025. 2. Termination of ABCI services by AIST and commencement of ABCI services by AIST Solutions, Co.

  • AIST will terminate the provision of ABCI service on Sunday March 31, 2024.
  • From Monday, April 1, 2024, AIST will grant AISol the right to use the ABCI system, and AISol will provide the ABCI service to users based on this right.
  • After April 1, 2024 (Mon.), the user will be required to conclude an ABCI contract based on the terms and conditions established by AISol.
  • Although AIST will change the provider of ABCI services to AISol, the same services will be provided to all users.

3. ABCI application and start of ABCI usage in FY2024

Applications for use in FY2024 will be accepted on this website as before.
We plan to begin accepting applications on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, and will post the details on this website as soon as they are finalized. The start of the fiscal year 2024 is scheduled for Friday, April 12, at 3:00pm.
