ABCI Point Issuance Restrictions for FY2025

Current Situation and Measures

This fiscal year, due to usage exceeding our projections, the demand for computational resources is expected to significantly surpass what we can provide. As a result, there is a possibility that the total number of ABCI points held by all ABCI user groups may exceed the total number of ABCI points that can be provided by ABCI 3.0.
Therefore, to ensure that all users can reliably utilize their acquired ABCI points by March 30, 2026, we will implement ABCI point issuance restrictions starting from 9:00 a.m. on August 21st, 2025.

The background to this measure is that while we expanded to ABCI 3.0 in January of this year to prepare for the growing demand in generative AI development, the actual demand this fiscal year has far exceeded our projections, primarily due to public sector usage. Consequently, we have been forced to restrict the issuance of new ABCI points.
Please note that Article 14, Paragraph 2 of the Agreement of Use for the Shared High-Performance Computer, ABCI states: “after October 1st of each year, the number of additional ABCI points that can be acquired may be capped based on the number of ABCI points used by each user group as of September 30th of the relevant year.” However, this time we are implementing point issuance restrictions starting from August 21st, 2025, prior to that provision.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and kindly ask for your understanding and cooperation.

Restriction on the Number of New or Additional Points issuable

Starting from 9:00 a.m. on August 21st, 2025, we will restrict the issuance of new and additional points as follows:
1. For Point Additions:

You cannot apply for additional points until your point usage rate exceeds 50%.
Once your point usage rate exceeds 50%, you can apply for additional points up to “2,000 points”.
If you wish to apply for more points beyond this, please apply within a range that ensures your point usage rate after the addition does not fall below 50%.
Example: If your total acquired points are 20,000 and your remaining points are 5,000, you can apply for up to 10,000 additional points.
Point usage rate after addition: (20,000 - 5,000) / (20,000 + 10,000) = 50%

2. For New User Groups (including continued use application):

The upper limit is set at 2,000 points.
Additionally, the deadline for “continued use application” for users continuing from FY2024 is set at 5:00 p.m. on September 30th, 2025.

Introduction to Cloud Program

In conjunction with the above measures, if it becomes difficult to secure the computational resources necessary for AI development on ABCI 3.0, we would like you to consider using GPU cloud services provided by domestic providers.
