Development Acceleration Use
ABCI 3.0 will be provided primarily for public use for the purposes of research and development, evaluation, and human resource development of cutting-edge AI technologies such as foundation models, generative AI, and multimodal AI. To achieve this, among the uses (referred to as “standard use”) stipulated in the Agreement of Use for the Shared High-Performance Computer, ABCI, those uses that meet the requirements regarding suitability to the purpose, openness of development, user attributes, and attributes of the funds that cover the usage fees will be certified as “development acceleration use” and computational resources will be provided at a discounted rate from the standard usage fee.
Development acceleration use will be approved based on the application of a user corporation that meets the eligibility and the application requirements and the content of the research and development project. When using development development use, it is necessary to fulfill the required responsibilities.
Eligibility
- Corporations that wish to use ABCI 3.0 for the first time or continuously (including use by AIST employees)
Application Requirements
The following three application requirements must be met:
- Suitability for purpose (meet any of the following):
- Research and development of cutting-edge AI models, and their optimization and tuning
- Research and development of cutting-edge AI learning data
- Research and development using cutting-edge AI (including inference in a variety of application fields)
- Research and development of fusion technologies of cutting-edge AI technology and quantum technology, etc.
- Evaluation of cutting-edge AI technology by public institutions
- Development of human resources who will lead cutting-edge AI technology
- Openness of research and development:
- The name of the corporation using the data, the affiliation and name of the person in charge of use, the theme, purpose of use, and an overview of the data can be made public.
- A report on results can be submitted and made public each fiscal year.
- Use attributes and attributes of the funds that cover the usage fee (meet any of the following):
- Use by “public institutions” including “universities”, independent administrative institutions, and foundations, academic and research institutions, and “non-profit organizations” (Article 4, Paragraph 2 of the Agreement) located in Japan
- The use is part of a commissioned or subsidized project funded by public research funds, etc., and an overview of the project content can also be made public
- Additional evidence required: Copy of contract, copy of adoption notice

We are currently not accepting applications for Development Acceleration Use.

Responsibilities and Duties
Submission of a results report
Please submit a results report each fiscal year to the following email address.
- abci3-application@abci.ai
- Submission deadline: Within one month of the fiscal year following the fiscal year in which the development acceleration use is conducted (April 30)
The format for the results report is shown below.
The following information regarding the development acceleration use will be published on the ABCI webpage.
- Name of research and development project
- Research and development overview
- Name of user organization
- Name of user responsible person
- Annual results report (public version)
Reporting research results
As stipulated in Article 21 of ABCI Agreement, if you wish to present results obtained using ABCI at an academic conference, international conference, press release, etc., please send the information (title, author name, summary, conference name/journal name, presentation date, etc.) to the email address below in advance. This obligation also applies to “standard use.”
Adding an acknowledgement for using ABCI
If you are publishing results obtained using ABCI in an academic presentation, international conference presentation, paper, press release, etc., please include an acknowledgement. Below is an example of an acknowledgement statement.
- We used ABCI 3.0 provided by AIST and AIST Solutions with support from “ABCI 3.0 Development Acceleration Use”.
Citing ABCI as a reference (Optional)
When citing ABCI in academic presentations, international conference presentations, papers, etc. regarding results achieved using ABCI, please use the following literature information as a reference.

Archive: Application Requirements (FY24)
The following three application requirements must be met:
- Suitability for purpose (meet any of the following):
- Research and development of cutting-edge AI models, and their optimization and tuning
- Research and development of cutting-edge AI learning data
- Research and development using cutting-edge AI (including inference in a variety of application fields)
- Research and development of fusion technologies of cutting-edge AI technology and quantum technology, etc.
- Evaluation of cutting-edge AI technology by public institutions
- Development of human resources who will lead cutting-edge AI technology
- Openness of research and development:
- The name of the corporation using the data, the affiliation and name of the person in charge of use, the theme, purpose of use, and an overview of the data can be made public.
- A report on results can be submitted and made public each fiscal year.
- Use attributes and attributes of the funds that cover the usage fee (meet any of the following):
- Use by “public institutions” including “universities”, independent administrative institutions, and foundations, academic and research institutions, and “non-profit organizations” (Article 4, Paragraph 2 of the Agreement) located in Japan
- Use by “company” (Article 4, Paragraph 1 of the Agreement) that is a legal entity as defined by the Companies Act (Act No. 86 of 2005) that has a domicile and is registered in Japan, and is also a specified business operator under the Small and Medium Enterprise Management Strengthening Act.
- Additional evidence required: Documents proving that the company is not a deemed large company
- The use is part of a commissioned or subsidized project funded by public research funds, etc., and an overview of the project content can also be made public
- Additional evidence required: Copy of contract, copy of adoption notice
