Notification of upcoming storage services

We would like to inform you of our future storage service offerings and data migration policy.
We are pleased to announce that we will be offering a portion of our ABCI 2.0 storage services free of charge beginning in mid-November. ABCI 2.0 storage services are being phased out and several long-term maintenance sessions are scheduled, so please plan ahead and migrate your data.
The storage service of the next ABCI (successor to /groups and /home of ABCI 2.0) will be provided free of charge from mid-November to March 30, 2025 at 5:00 pm.

ABCI 2.0 storage service retirement schedule and data migration policy

For other than /home, users are responsible for data migration. Data migration policy for /home has not yet been decided, and will be announced as soon as it is decided.

  • Storage to be retired by the end of October.
    • local storage
      • End date: Oct 31, 2024
      • Local storage will no longer be accessible due to the discontinuation of the ABCI 2.0 Compute node provision.
    • /scratch
      • End date: Oct 31, 2024
      • Even before the end date of provision, files that are more than 7 days old will be deleted if they are candidates for deletion. Please save necessary files within 7 days.
    • /projects
      • End Date: Jun 28, 2024 1:00 pm
      • No longer offered.
  • Storage to be provided free of charge after mid-November and then retired.
    • /bb
      • End date: Dec 31, 2024
      • Users will be contacted individually.
    • ABCI 2.0 Cloud Storage
      • End date: Mar 30, 2025 5:00 pm
      • ABCI 2.0 Cloud Storage migration methods will be explained separately. Please contact us if you are having trouble finding a place to save your data migration.
      • As the User Portal will be shut down at the end of October, some functions of ABCI 2.0 Cloud Storage will be restricted. Applications for ABCI 2.0 Cloud Storage usage, creation of access keys for ABCI 2.0 Cloud Storage, and other storage applications must also be submitted by the end of October.
    • ABCI 2.0 /groups
      • End date: approx. Sep, 2025
      • If you have a large amount of data, please migrate your data as soon as possible.
    • ABCI 2.0 /home
      • End date: TBD
      • Data migration policy has not yet been determined, and will be announced as soon as it is determined.

Maintenance Schedule

Please plan ahead and migrate your data as several long-term maintenance sessions are scheduled.

  • November-December: There will be three scheduled maintenance sessions that will shut down the entire ABCI for 2 to 15 days.
  • January-March, 2025: There will be three scheduled maintenance sessions that will shut down the entire ABCI for 2 to 15 days.

ABCI 2.0 storage data migration destination

From mid-November to March 30, 2025 at 5:00 pm, we will provide free storage service for the next ABCI (successor to /groups and /home of ABCI 2.0). Please consider this as a data migration destination.

  • The new /groups area will be provided for a fee after April. The new /home area will be provided free of charge after April.
  • We will announce further details regarding the use of the next ABCI.

Storage services for next ABCI after April, 2025 (planned)

The service is being prepared to start offering storage services for a fee.

  • Fees, etc. will be announced separately. /home will be provided free of charge.
  • A separate “Continuation Application” or “New User Application” is required for use in FY2025. The date when applications will be available has not yet been determined, and will be announced separately as soon as it is determined.
